Pride Month 2026 runs throughout June, with major parades and festivals in nearly every major city. If you're planning to attend one (or several), here's the full schedule: dates, locations, and what to expect at each event.

Why June?

Pride Month is held in June to honor the Stonewall Uprising. On June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City's Greenwich Village. The patrons fought back. The resistance lasted six days and kicked off the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement.

The first pride marches took place in June 1970, one year after Stonewall, in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago. They've happened every June since. What started as protest marches are now massive celebrations of identity and community, but the roots are in resistance. That matters.

How to Prepare for Pride 2026

Whether it's your first pride event or your twentieth, here's a practical checklist:

Get your flag early. The popular ones sell out closer to June.
Wear sunscreen. Pride parades are hours in direct sun.
Bring water. Dehydration at outdoor events is no joke.
Comfortable shoes. You'll walk more than you think.
Know your route. Most parades have designated viewing areas.
Plan transportation. Parking near pride events is a nightmare. Take transit.

Celebrating Pride If You Can't Make It to an Event

Not everyone can get to a parade. That doesn't mean you can't participate. Pride is about visibility, and that can happen anywhere.

IDEA 01

Fly a flag at home

Put one on your porch, in your window, or on your car. Visibility matters, especially in communities where LGBTQ+ people don't always feel safe being themselves. One flag can change someone's whole day.

IDEA 02

Support LGBTQ+ businesses

Buy from queer-owned businesses. Not just in June. But if you're going to start somewhere, Pride Month is the time.

IDEA 03

Educate yourself (and others)

Read LGBTQ+ history. Watch a documentary. Have a conversation with someone whose experience is different from yours. The learning never stops.

IDEA 04

Donate or volunteer

Local LGBTQ+ organizations, especially those serving youth and trans communities, need support year-round. June is a good time to start.
